The 6 most iconic London fashion trends of the last 50 years

2. The miniskirt

In many ways London’s biggest gift to global fashion, the miniskirt is an icon in itself. Designer Mary Quant was credited with the original design which was sold in her King’s Road shop Bazaar in 1964. Shortly after, the miniskirt became a symbol of Swinging London.

The new skirt style flew off shelves around the world, but was always controversial. It was briefly banned in the Netherlands, but the ban lasted only a few months because of the miniskirt’s overwhelming popularity.
