Roman Abramovich gets permission to build £100m superhome in Chelsea

Chelsea Football owner and one of the richest Londoners Roman Abramovich has finally got the go ahead to build a £100m home in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea.

Abramovich plans to excavate a two-storey basement under three linked properties. Neighbours had slammed the billionaire’s plans as they worried the construction would mean loss of light and noise pollution for them, but Abramovich is believed to have come to a settlement with them.

Features of the new home include an art studio, a garden inspired by previous owner James Whistler’s paintings of the Thames Embankment, and a “secondary building for staff and guests”.

Abramovich’s dream home is likely to take three years before he can move in.
