Sweets to the sweet for Cumberbatch as Hamlet becomes most in-demand play ever

Whatever Benedict Cumberbatch touches turns to gold at the moment it seems. The actor is hot property across the globe after the success of Sherlock, which has won him fans as far afield as China and Japan, but it is his decision to tread the boards as Hamlet in a production at the Barbican next year that has got the ticket-buying public baying for Benedict.

The play, which is running from August 5 to October 31 next year, sold out in just minutes to make it the fastest selling ticket in London theatre history.

According to ticket website Viagogo the production became the most searched-for event on the website, beating Beyoncé and Jay Z’s On The Run tour.

But all hope is not lost for fans wishing to see Cumberbatch as the doomed prince. The Barbican is holding back 100 tickets for each performance which will go on sale for £10 each.
