Facebook secretly developing video message service to take on Snapchat

Facebook is secretly developing a video chat app that could rival Snapchat, the Financial Times has reported.

Known within the company as Slingshot, the app would form part of Facebook’s growing stable of apps that sit outside the social network’s core experience, and could be launched as soon as this month if the project goes ahead.

The service would go head-to-head with transient photo-messaging service Snapchat, which Facebook failed to buy in November 2013, despite a $3bn offer being put on the table by Zuckerberg and co.
