Sir Philip Green to sell BHS at last – but who would buy it?

Sir Philip Green (pictured above with Kim Kardashian) is poised to sell off his department store chain, BHS.

This would break up the Arcadia group, which includes the highly successful fashion chains TopShop, Wallis and Dorothy Perkins.

With 120 stores scattered across the country, BHS has struggled to keep its place in a changing and crowded retail market, as newcomers like Westfield and the online retail sites ASOS and Net-a-Porter make gains. BHS lost £21m in 2014, according to reports.

So who would buy Matalan? Here’s a list of rumoured buyers:

1. Tony Brown, a former BHS executive

Tony Brown is BHS’ ex-senior director. He is known to have joined hands with Wall Street private equity giant Apollo to acquire the business.

2. Clothing giant Matalan

To ramp up its presence on the high street, clothing chain Matalan is eyeing up BHS stores. Sources have told This is Money that Matalan has already identified BHS stores it wants to snap up.
