Why are letting agents describing this London flat as “not very nice”?

Everyone who has ever rented in London will have experienced the sinking feeling when you go to view that dream property and it turns out to be nothing like the agent said.

Well you certainly wouldn’t find that with this one-bedroom Hoxton flat.

The agent, Harvey Residential, described it as “Not a Very Nice” flat but “like the Budgie its Cheap” at £997 per month for the popular area.

Not very nice flat

At the end of the Zoopla ad, the agent goes on to say: “unfortunately no rafters or natural beams to hang from” – but Harvey Residential assured the Evening Standard it meant hanging a clothes horse and not suicide.

Warren George, director of the business, told the Evening Standard: “It is refreshing when an estate agent tells all of the truth, I could say that it has a ground floor spacious kitchen. It is quite a basic straight forward flat that is not very nice.”

The letting agency prides itself on its refreshingly modern approach – for example, George told LondonlovesBusiness.com: “We use bicycles for all our viewings - we have Bromptons and Electric Go Cycles to promote a greener Hackney!”

You also won’t spot Harvey Residential staff in the typical cheap suits you’d associate with letting agents – they wear what matches the area, including shorts when it’s hot.
