If you have £25m worth cash to splash on a home with history, then this is your dream property.

The Red Lion, a disused pub in Mayfair, has been converted into a ultra-luxury home with five-bedrooms, four reception rooms, eight bathrooms, two roof terraces, a subterranean swimming pool and gym.

Designed by architects Squire and Partners, the home’s been named “The Red Lion House” after the pub. The pub shut down in 2009 and apart from its facade, the whole building was demolished.

The outside of the house looks like a Virginia Creeper climbing tree with 4,080 bespoke folded aluminium leaves.

The home is being sold by luxury property agents Wetherell.

Peter Wetherell, MD, Wetherell, told the Daily Mail: “It is trendy meets Mayfair. When I first started working in Mayfair 30 years ago it was one of the most popular pubs in the area.

“It was always full of advertising types and estate agents and the landlord would give each of the barmaids a fresh rose each morning to wear.

“But it went downhill over the years and after a few disputes the brewery decided it was worth more as an asset so decided to sell it.

“I didn’t think they would get planning permission to turn it into a residential property but I was wrong.”

  • This is a real tragedy. t was destroyed by Westminster Council's ludicrous councillors who hated its popularity. The council dictated that no one could drink outside the pub - bankrupting it. It also launched a campaign claiming it had infringed 'catering rules' as part of its offensive. So one of London's finest was crushed. The Red Lion pub was one of London's best - frequented by several hundred locals on a summer's evening - the most popular pub for miles around. It was led by a former RN Officer and his team of super-efficient Brazilians, all much admired locally. What a ghastly, awful edifice has been put in its place. Another disaster.. by Westminster Council, locally known as 'Westapo'.
