A record 4,300 people use Help to Buy in June

Help to Buy is more popular than ever it seems, after a record number of people used it last month.

In June, more than 4,300 people used Help to Buy – a record number of buyers, according to government data.

To date, more than 27,000 homes have been bought using the scheme, which offers an interest-free loan of around 20% as a deposit.

The total spent on the loans reached £1.1bn, with the average value of the properties bought at £187,000.

Housing minister Brandon Lewis said: “It’s no accident that since the start of the scheme private housebuilding has shot up by a third and continues to climb. Developers are increasing their output, and taking on new workers at the fastest rate since records began.”
