Vivienne Westwood sports pro-Assange outfit at London Fashion Week

British designer Vivienne Westwood showed off her support for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at her London Fashion Week show yesterday by wearing a pro-Assage T-Shirt.

Marching side-by-side with models at the close of her catwalk show at the Saatchi Gallery, Westwood sported a T-shirt with her face on it and the words “I am Julian Assange”.

Westwood, a British fashion institution, called a Assange a “hero” and said she had already raised £3,000 for the Australian national.

“I’m a big supporter of Julian Assange,” Westwood told Reuters. “He’s an incredible hero because he exposes the lies of the war mafia people.

“I love people who stick their necks out,” she said.

Assange is currently under house arrest at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he has been granted asylum. He is wanted for sex charges in Sweeden, but insists that these have been trumped up and would lead him to be extradited to the US where he claims he might be trailed for treason.

The British government has pledged to arrest Assange if he leaves the Knightsbridge Embassy where he has been holed up since last summer.
