Rain on the parade: Notting Hill Carnival in photographs
Ah, Notting Hill Carnival – the August bank holiday parade is the best place in London to get down to some grooving tunes, while gobbling goat curry from a paper plate in the rain.
Europe’s largest annual street party always has the potential for a bit of trouble. This year, the total number of arrests was down to 261, from 301 last year.
Several arrests were made in connection to violent clashes with police following an arrest for suspected drug-dealing. Three men were stabbed, and two police officers were injured in a spate of incidents.
There were about 7,000 police deployed to cover the bank holiday event.
Despite appalling weather, thousands of revellers took to the streets to enjoy the carnival. Heavy rain did delay the beginning of the carnival procession on Monday, but moods were not dampened by the deluge.
