Art and fashion collide on St Martin's Lane

Before the stylish onslaught of London Fashion Week, we shimmied out last Thursday to the launch of Art Meets Fashion…Again, a collaborative project and art space in St Martin’s Lane Hotel.

Fashion designer Philip Colbert (once described as “the godchild of Andy Warhol”) presented the latest from his label, The Rodnik Band, which over the next month, will be displayed in the space among canvases from three different artists – all of whom Colbert names as an inspiration for his clothes.

“I have always been inspired by art and putting this together has been a lot of fun. We hope the surreal world of The Rodnik Bank will come alive in this space,” said Colbert.

Colbert has achieved international acclaim and success with his quirky, unique designs, which blur the boundaries between art and fashion.

To kick off the project, there was a display of work by street artist Rich Simmons whose clever, politically charged collages have had people hailing him as the next Banksy.

Champagne was flowing and everyone seemed charmed by the colourful, playful project.

The show was supported by Opera Gallery London whose charismatic director Jean-David Malat spoke to us last week.
