Twitter market cap hits £34.7bn on first day of trading

Twitter’s debut on the stock market saw shares rising at unprecedented rates, reaching a peak of $50.09, giving the company a market capitalisation of $34.7bn.

The clamour for shares temporarily pushed the seven-year-old social networking site’s market cap above several established companies.

In comparison, Yahoo!’s NASDAQ market cap is around $34.16 billion, while Time Warner Cable’s NYSE market cap is approximately $33.77 billion, according to the Financial Times.
