Samsung's profits dip as consumers hang up on its mobile phones

Samsung may be the world’s biggest phone maker but consumers aren’t impressed with its latest mobile phones.

Sales at the mobile phone unit fell 4%. Revenues of the South Korean firm’s mobile phone division dropped to 33.4 trillion won (£23.3bn) in the January-to-March period.

Overall, Samsung reported a net profit of 7.57 trillion won (£4.4bn) for the first quarter of this year, up from 7.3 trillion won (£4.2bn) in the previous three months.

Last week, Apple announced profits of $10.2bn in the three months to 29 March 2014 on some $45.6bn of revenue.
