Here’s why you’re about to lose followers on Instagram

No, it’s not becasue you took too many photos of your breakfast (but those are really boring by the way)

Instagram’s CEO has warned that the social network’s users might soon start to see a fall in followers.

It’s all down to Instagram’s approach to spammy and robot accounts, which it hopes to clamp down on.

Thousands of users could be deleted, meaning users may see their followers drop, the company warned.

CEO Kevin Systrom said Instagram was also going to introduce a blue tick similar to Facebook and Twitter which helps its users identify famous people or brands.

“We want to be all about authentic users and you making sure that you know you’re following real people not bots, not spam accounts, not fake accounts.” Systrom told BBC Newsbeat.

Instagram just overtook Twitter in popularity and now has 300m users.
