Apple's App Store hit by its first large-scale cyber attack

Apple’s App Store has been hit by a massive cyber attack leaving hundreds of iPhone and iPad apps with malicious software.

Developers were forced to download a counterfeit version of Apple’s software for building iOS apps. These fake apps can steal user data and send it to servers controlled by hackers.

Hackers were also able to send fake alerts to infected devices asking users to reveal their passwords and other information.

Apple spokeswoman Christine Monaghan said: “We’ve removed the apps from the App Store that we know have been created with this counterfeit software.

“We are working with the developers to make sure they’re using the proper version of Xcode to rebuild their apps.”

Cyber security Palo Alto said that millions of users could be affected by this cyber attack.
