Apple Pay is coming next month – and you’ll be able to use it on the Tube

The technology is coming to the UK in July

From next month, if you’ve got an iPhone 6, Apple Watch, iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 you’ll be able to pay for public transport in London with Apple Pay.

The new app will let users pay for a myriad of things with just their phone, eliminating chip and pin or contactless cards.

When you reach the barrier at a Tube station, rather than fumbling with bank cards and desperately trying to avoid the dreaded “card clash”, you’ll be able to beep your phone over the sensor, without having to even open the payment app.

To start off with, it will be available at 250,000 locations in the UK, including Transport for London, Marks & Spencer, Costa and Waitrose.

We’re only the second country to have access to the payment technology, after the US.
