Ofcom to Royal Mail: Improve performance or face fines

Ofcom has threatened to impose fines on Royal Mail if it does not improve performance.

The regulator said that Royal Mail has missed performance targets of delivering 93% of all first-class letters on the day after collection. Royal Mail has reached only 91.7%.

Ofcom went on to say that Royal Mail had not met a target of 91.5% of next-day delivery for first-class post in most of the UK’s geographic postcode areas. The postal service managed to reach only 62% of the required postcode areas in the year to March 2013.

“Ofcom is concerned about Royal Mail’s failure to meet certain service targets, and has made clear to the company that it must take all necessary steps to meet these in future,” the regulator said.
