Ex-Tesco boss Philip Clarke was paid £764,000 months after he (sort of) left

It turns out he didn’t really leave after all

Philip Clarke, who stepped down as Tesco boss in September 2014, was still being paid after he left.

In fact, it turns out the former-CEO was being paid to be called on to help new boss Dave Lewis get to grips with the job up until 19 January.

He was handed £764,000 by the supermarket last year, even on top of the £1.15m “golden goodbye” he took home on his official departure.

Tesco said it was forced to make “legally binding contractual payments” to the former CEO who oversaw a 30% drop in the company’s share price during his time in charge.
