Calamity-struck Tesco to cut up to 10,000 jobs

More trouble for Britain’s biggest grocer

Tesco could axe as many as 10,000 jobs, according to reports.

The UK’s largest supermarket chain has suffered two years of falling profits and was shaken by last year’s accounting scandal.

An overhaul by chief executive Dave Lewis includes the closure of 43 UK Tesco stores, which could put 2,000 jobs at risk.

In addition, a further 6,000 roles could be axed at the company’s head office, the Sunday Telegraph reports.

It is not yet clear where the additional 2,000 jobs are based, but the 10,000 figure is being widely reported.

A spokesperson for Tesco declined to comment on the 10,000 figure given in the reports.
