UK will spend what is needed to prepare for Brexit: May

Conflicting statements?

Just hours after Chancellor Philip Hammond ruled out a possibility of fund allocation in case of a no deal, a No 10 spokesman has clarified that £250m of new money had been allocated this year to prepare for leaving the EU “including the possibility of a no-deal scenario”, media reports suggest.

Just a while ago, the Chancellor had said that diverting funds would mean less money for the NHS and social care. He had therefore insisted that such a thing would not happen until the “very last moment”.

But May has clarified that £250m had already been allocated to the Home Office, environment, transport and other departments: “Where money needs to be spent it will be spent.”

“We are preparing for every eventuality. We are committing money to prepare for Brexit, including a no deal scenario,” she further added during the questions round.
