Nigel Farage faces investigation for channelling EU money into anti-EU campaign

UKIP leader Nigel Farage is facing an investigation over claims he is using taxpayer money to fund a tour of anti-EU dates across the UK.

Labour MP Wes Streeting reported Farage to authorities in Brussels after it emerged that the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group (EFDD), allegedly received £4.7m from the European Parliament over the past three years.

The group backs the “Say No to EU” campaign, which is promoting a British exit from the EU at the forthcoming referendum.

Streeting tweeted: “I’ve asked the President of the European Parliament to investigate Nigel Farage’s use of taxpayer £ for anti-EU tour.”

Speaking about the case, Streeting said: “Nigel Farage has a catalogue of questions to answer about whether he is spending taxpayers’ money on his campaign and breaching European Parliament rules.

“Mr Farage has already criticised David Cameron over the use of public funds in the referendum campaign, so any suggestion that UKIP has bankrolled his anti-EU tour with European taxpayers’ money must be thoroughly investigated by the Parliament’s authorities.”

But an EFDD spokesman hit back, saying that “there is no such thing as EU money”

They said: “The EU and political groups spend billions on pro-EU propaganda. They can’t complain when elected MEPs facilitate public knowledge and debate on how the EU ‘works’.

“There no is such thing as EU money. In the UK it comes from mainly Eurosceptic taxpayers who deserve to be represented and have their voices heard. The slavishly pro-EU and pro-TTIP Labour Party may disagree.”

I wonder how much money the European Commission will spend trying to persuade the British to stay in the EU. It is also our money contributed through taxes and the Commission has no more or less right than Nigel Farage to use the money to sway voters.

  • Isn't it about time some-one started an investigation into WHY those we elect to Govern us the only way our elected Politicians should Govern us, which is by and through our very own Common Law Constitution that so many gave THEIR lives for in two World WARS. By paying FOREIGNERS to Govern us, they betray all those that gave THEIR lives for our freedom to do so.

WE had one GREAT PRIME MINISTER THAT WORKED NIGHT AND DAY FOR ALL IN THIS COUNTRY TO BE FREE FROM FOREIGN RULE. Today’s Politicians PAY foreigners to Govern us, knowing full well our very own Common Law Constitution forbids us encouraging ANY FOREIGNER from doing so.
