Mayan end of the world greater interest than Leveson to Brits

The Mayan prediction that the world will end this year on December 21st ranked higher on people’s concerns than the Leveson Inquiry, according to a new poll.

This comes as 74% of those asked said they didn’t care about the inquiry into press standards, with reported this week.

In the poll of 2487 people, just 53% said they understood what the inquiry was about.

When asked to rank their concerns in order of importance, the ‘Economy’ and ‘Christmas’ came out joint top followed by ‘Flooding’, ‘Snow’, and ‘Cost of Energy Bills’ that made up the top 5.

George Charles, marketing director at, which conducted the survey, said:

“We decided to see just what ordinary folk really thought about the Leveson Inquiry and it is clear that it is just not of interest to UK citizens. The economy is still clearly the big issue at the forefront of everyone’s minds, alongside the annual concerns about Christmas and the weather situation.”
