Julian Assange needs medical tests but he’ll be arrested if he leaves the Ecuadorian Embassy

Foreign Office refused to give him safe passage to the hospital

Julian Assange needs an MRI scan on his shoulder, according to the Ecuadorian Embassy, however if he sets foot outside the building he will be arrested.

The British taxpayer has stumped up more than £11.1m so far in policing the building where the WikiLeaks founder is hiding.

Assange has been in the embassy for three years, fleeing rape charges in Sweden. He’s alleged to have raped one woman and committed sexual offences against another.

The Foreign Office plans to extradite the fugitive as soon as he enters British soil where he can be legally arrested.

He claims he fears if he’s extradited to Sweden, he’ll then be taken to the US – where he’s wanted on treason charges – and executed.

Assange’s US lawyer Carey Shenkman said: “By claiming that Mr Assange must give up his asylum in order to receive medical treatment, the UK government is forcing him to choose between the human right to asylum and the human right to medical treatment.

“No one should ever have to face that choice. Sweden and the United Kingdom have the responsibility to ensure that Mr Assange’s basic rights are respected. They should agree without further delay to permit Mr Assange’s safe passage to a hospital on humanitarian grounds.”
