Thunderstorms and heavy rain cause commuter chaos across London

Some were worried it was an omen ahead of the Scottish referendum results, as last night lashing rain and electrical storms struck London and the south east.

But while the Union remained intact, train services into and out of London were disrupted after lightning strikes damaged electrical equipment.

The storm, which passed over London in the early hours of the morning, caused delays and cancellations on services today.

First Great Western and Southeastern railways have warned of possible further disruption.

A weather warning remains in place and further heavy rain and electrical storms are forecast.
