Crossrail to get mobile phone access. Will the Tube follow?

You’re on the way to meet a friend, but for various reasons (none of which are your fault, of course) you’re running a bit late. Unfortunately you took the Tube andf are unable to ring your buddy, leaving them standing there like a gonzo outside the station, wondering whether you’re coming or not.

This familiar and aggravating scenario is set to come to an end for those using Crossrail, under new plans by Transport for London.

Unfortunately, it will be replaced with people shouting into their phones, as the underground tunnel will have a phone network put in before it opens in 2018.

It could open to door for the introduction of a mobile system on the whole of the Tube network, however TfL said some lines such as the Northern and Central lines have too small tunnels.
