Airport parking in London most expensive in the world, often costing more than flights

Sky high parking prices for UK fliers

It should be no match – leaving a vehicle empty for a week in a space 2.5m x 5m, or using an aircraft to fly hundreds or thousands of miles.

The plane, and all that a flight necessitates – terminal buildings, security, air traffic controllers, aviation fuel, pilots, stewards, the weird food – should definitely cost more. Shouldn’t it?

Well, the price of parking is giving the price of flying a run for its money in Britain.

The UK has the world’s most exorbitant airport car parking, with an astonishing seven airports in the world’s top 10 most expensive airport car parks.

The most expensive parking lot of the lot is at London City airport, where the cost of deserting your car for a week costs a stinging £315.

Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Edinburgh and Manchester are all also on the list of shame and Birmingham comes 11th.

The research comes from airport parking app JustPark.

Anthony Eskinazi, founder of JustPark, said: “We’ve long known that airport parking is overpriced across the country, but all the same these new revelations are remarkable.

“Finding that seven of the world’s ten most expensive airports are here in the UK shows the extent of the problem we are facing.

“When people are paying more for their airport parking than their flights, something needs to change. We want to redress this balance and make airport parking more affordable.”

  • Their message is very clear -use public transport or get a cab if you are going for more than two or three days. I travel a lot and have not taken my car to airport for stays over that time for several years now, only because of these charges.
