London is in the bottom half of the league tables for the happiness of its residents.

The Office for National Statistics surveyed more than 300,000 people from all over the UK, asking participants to rank their happiness between 0 and 10, and found the average level of happiness in the UK was 7.38 out of 10.

On average in England, London residents ranked themselves 7.31 out of 10, compared with 7.45 for the South East (the happiest region) and 7.29 for the North East (the least happy region).

Elsewhere, the study also found people aged 65 to 79 were the happiest, as were Hindus and married people.
