Payday blues as HSBC's website and mobile app goes down

Problem began early morning today

Thousands of HSBC customers across the UK may not be able to access their money today after the bank’s both mobile app and the website went down due to technical issues.

Customers attempting to log in to the website are being met with a message: ‘We’re sorry that our website is currently unavailable, please try again later’ and are being advised to call the bank for more information.

The problem was first reported today morning.

A spokesperson for HSBC has clarified: “We are aware that some of our retail customers are having trouble logging into online banking and mobile services and we are working hard to fix the problem. We are sorry for any inconvenience and customers with an urgent query should call 03457 404 404.”

Angry users are taking to Twitter to adress the issue. One user tweeted: “@HSBC please sort out your mobile banking app. It’s payday for God’s sake and I need to give everyone my hard earned wages #HSBC.”

Another tweeted: “But hold on, #HSBC went down on the same day that #AssassinsCreedOrigins came out. Coincidence? I think not.”

Media reports suggest that HSBC customers were unable to access online banking services twice in a month last December and January, in the wake of an apparent cyber attack.
