Scotland Yard says it is “assessing the content” of a video which is calling for attacks on central London shopping areas including Oxford Street and the Westfield shopping centres.

The video, published on Saturday, has reportedly come from the Somalian group Al-Shabab, which has connections with Al-Qaida.

It calls for attacks on London, Canada and the US.

The speaker in the video says the 2013 attack on a shopping centre in Nairobi in Kenya was in retaliation to Kenyan military involvement in Somalia. They also warn of further attacks in Kenya.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The MPS Counter Terrorism Command is aware of the video and is assessing the content.

“We remind the public that downloading extremist material may constitute an offence.”
