Thousands of E.ON customers to get money off bills after mis-selling fine

Energy regulator Ofgem has fined E.ON a whopping £12m for mis-selling over three years.

After an investigation, the gas and electricity supplier was found to have broken rules by not properly training and monitoring its sales staff, leading to them making false claims about how much potential customers could claim by switching to E.ON.

Around 333,000 Warm Home Discount customers will get £35 off their bills, while other customers will get a letter telling them how to get in touch if they think they were a mis-selling victim.

Sarah Harrison, Ofgem senior partner in charge of enforcement, told the media: “The time is right to draw a line under past supplier bad behaviour and truly rebuild trust so consumers are put at the heart of the energy market.

“E.ON has today taken a good step by accepting responsibility for its actions and putting proper redress in place.”
