British Gas lowers prices – did this damning report have anything to do with it?

The Big Six energy firms were heavily criticised by a market watchdog last week

British Gas, the nation’s biggest gas supplier, has said it will be lowering gas prices by 5%.

This could save the average customer £35 a year, according to the company.

But what prompted this announcement? Could it be this report from last week which said the Big Six are overcharging us by 5% a year?

That’s a whopping £1.2bn across all households, and £500m across small and medium sized businesses, according to the Competition and Markets Authority.
