Why are 20 top British banks about to be hacked?

British banks’ cyber security is set to be put to the test in a series of simulated hacking attacks.

A total of 20 banks and other financial institutions will face “penetration testing” from officially approved specialists, which will be based on intelligence reports on real hackers.

The level of testing is unprecedented, according to the Bank of England, which is overseeing the attacks.

Likely participants include the Royal Bank of Scotland and the London Stock Exchange, according to the Financial Times.
