Where does London rank in a list of the most livable cities? Hint: not very high

London is behind New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Berlin in a list of the world’s most livable cities.

Our capital comes in at 22nd out of 64 of the world’s major cities for quality of life, missing not only the top 10, but the top third of the list.

The researchers took into account the cities’ economic vibrancy and competitiveness, domestic security and stability, socio-cultural conditions, public governance, environmental friendliness and sustainability.

Lead researcher Tan Khee Giap from the National University of Singapore, said: “The implicit ethical values of a balance between work and play, and of a balance between thinking globally and acting locally are values which we are comfortable in advocating to any city, and which we think most people could accept.”

Here’s the top 10:

1.       Geneva

2.       Zurich

3.       Singapore

4.       Copenhagen

5.       Helsinki

6.       Luxembourg

7.       Stockholm

8.       Berlin

9.       Hong Kong

10.   Aukland

  • London is close to the bottom of my list of places to live. It's filthy and everyone's miserable.
