UK falls down richest countries table

The UK has fallen back to 11th place in a list of the EU’s richest countries.

Last year the European Commission put the UK in 10th place based on gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, however, the UK has been leapfrogged by one of its closest neighbours, France.

Luxemburg topped the list with a GDP per capita more than twice the UK’s, and once again Bulgaria came bottom at number 28, despite improvements in recent years.

The UK, however, performed much better based on actual individual consumption per capita – a measure of the material welfare of households – coming joint sixth with France and Denmark.
