Pop! Eros snow globe bursts in high winds

High winds in London last night “popped” the snow globe installed in Piccadilly Circus.

Snow, in the form of polystyrene balls, fluttered down over spectators last night when the PVC casing that contained them burst.

The 62ft snow globe had been warmly welcomed as a festive decoration since Westminster Council installed it a month ago.

While it did a great job looking cheerful, the real purpose was to keep vandals from getting at the delicate Eros statue over the Christmas period.

The council had planned to bring it back every year until 2016 but after this year’s flop, it remains to be seen if the council will reconsider.
