Forget how you dress or how you talk. Here’s the REAL reason women are not getting senior jobs

It isn’t you

“Old boys’ networks” are the reason many women do not get senior jobs in Britain’s top companies, according to study by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

Many board positions are not advertised and nearly a third of the UK’s top companies rely on personal networks the study found.

More than 60% of the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 had less than a quarter of their boards made up of women.

And during the period of the study, 2012 to 2014, fewer than half of the companies increased their representation of women on boards.

“The good work of a forward thinking minority masks that many top businesses are still only paying lip service to improving the representation of women on boards,” said EHRC commissioner Laura Carstensen.

“The recruitment process to the boards of Britain’s top companies remains shadowy and opaque and is acting as a barrier to unleashing female talent.”
