BuzzFeed reveals IPO plans – here’s 4 things you might not know about the media company

It’s more of an upstart than a start-up

BuzzFeed has revealed it will launch an IPO at some point soon.

CEO Jonah Peretti announced the plans at a tech conference in the US yesterday, possibly in a bid to get potential investors hyped.

The company was founded in 2006 in New York and has grown to be one of the world’s biggest media operators.

Here are four things you might not know about BuzzFeed:

  • It gets one billion views a month

  • 75% of its hits come from social media

  • It has 5.4 million subscribers on YouTube

  • It’s worth $850m – or it was when it was valued back in August 2014
