Businesses need to shout about the benefits of the EU, says CBI

Firms urged to “speak out early”

The CBI is urging businesses to be vocal about the benefits of staying in the EU.

The industry body is set to say companies needed to “turn up the volume” to ensure it is “crystal clear that membership is in our national interest”.

In a speech at the CBI dinner, president Sir Mike Rake will say there are “no credible alternatives” to EU membership and the UK should work towards being in a reformed EU.

He will say: “In the months to come, our country will have to make its own choice. A choice between openness and isolation, between shaping the future or retreating into the past.

“The question is not whether the UK would survive outside the EU, but whether it would thrive.”
