Almost as many Chinese students doing postgrad at our universities as Brits

There are almost as many students from China studying postgraduate degrees at British universities as British students.

According to figures from the Higher Education Funding Council of England (Hefce), 23% of students studying for masters-level degree courses are Chinese while 26% of students are from the UK.

“The degree of reliance on students from China at full-time masters level varies across the subject group,” Hefce said.

Overall, people from outside the UK made up 74% of all students who started taught masters degrees in 2012-13.

However, since then there has been a 1% fall, which is blamed on the rise of anti-immigration rhetoric in the UK, as the country is seen as being much less welcoming to foreign students than before.
