Blistering temperatures to hit London this week ahead of storms

Britain standby; summer is here and searing heat is set to cook the south east this week as temperatures are forecast to soar into the high twenties, and perhaps even beyond.

Thursday is hotly tipped to win the coveted hottest day of the year title, with the prospect of the mercury hitting 30 degrees Celcius.

Speaking to the Independent, Mark Seltzer, a forecaster at the Met Office, stoked hopes of hot weather. He said: “It will get warmer and more humid mid-week.”

“There is a chance of it hitting 30C around Thursday, possibly even into Friday, but it will most likely only affect the south-east of the UK.”

However, thunderstorms are set to spoil all the alfresco frivolity just in time for the weekend. A battalion of storm clouds are already charging in our direction from the Atlantic, and will bring heavy rain and electrical storms.
